Everyone has a life, a past, and that means everyone has a net.

It’s attached to us from the moment that we are born.

What ends up inside of our Net is the things that we carry with us, both consciously and subconsciously. It’s our life. It’s what we carry.

It’s part of the truth of the menstrual cycle. The way that, as a woman, we are built with the ability to inherently carry these heavy loads. But we are not necessarily taught what to do with them or how to process them.

Because of this our lives may end up feeling like they are holding us down. We may feel filled with anxiety, depression, doubt, anger. Some of us have looked for help with these feelings, not understanding ourselves, and are dismissed, misdiagnosed, even medicated for the wrong things.

I would like to take you on a visualization instead.

I want you to picture yourself as a young child, with a net attached to your back.

Like the kind that trolls the bottom of the ocean.

It’s loose, it has big holes.

But it hangs from your shoulders, picking everything from the ground. Parents arguing.

Childhood traumas.

Fears.

It picks up all those heavy things in life.

Some of those things are able to slip through the holes of the Net and fall away.

Some of us naturally have larger holes and things slip away easier but for others, the holes in the net are finer, smaller, and more things get stuck.

As we age and life happens, the net might get more and more full.

As it gets fuller, it gets bigger, it widens and catches more.

It gets taller, and starts hanging onto the things that aren’t even as heavy.

It grows more taught; the holes naturally get smaller.

There comes a point where it can get so large and tall it even takes our joys from the top.

During the beginning of our menstrual phase, envision that we are walking up a hill with this net attached to us.

Sometimes even though it can feel like a heavy load, you are excited to climb the mountain with it, to get to the top of the mountain, you look behind you, see the work that you’ve done, and feel really proud of yourself.

You pat yourself on the back, because you just carried it all, and you made it to the top.

But when the luteal phase hits, it’s like going down the mountain with this net attached to your back, strapped to your shoulders, with plenty of ways for things to fall out.

Suddenly the same things that you might have thought you were carrying well, things you might not have even noticed, are falling out of your net, on top of you, in front of you, tripping you, there’s no escape, and because it’s still dragging, it all ends up right back in.

Anything that gets in your way during that time gets the wrath, the intense sadness, the questioning, the worry. You just don’t need one more thing.

If your net happened to be so full and large that there is no room for any more joy, then you might have less and less of those good moments or notice how it feels getting to the top of the mountain, and it just feels as if it goes from bad to worse.
